The Observatory in Estudos Visuais e Arqueologia dos Média is based on the necessity to discuss themes and topics related with the research of the PhD students in visual studies of the ICNOVA - Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. The Observatory aims to develop and share research, as well as scientific and/or artistic works with the academic community and other interested people. To achieve this goal, we plan a program that includes conferences and talks with artists and specialists in visual studies.

Isabel Stein is a PhD student in the program of Art Studies - Art and Mediation of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa - FCSH/UNL (Portugal) where she develops the research Visual Tropes: aesthetic-political inscriptions of contemporary photographic imagery. She holds a master's degree in Communication and Culture from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, obtaining the title with the research titled Photoicons: from the incarnation of the pathos to the social performance; and graduated in Social Communication in the same university.
